This half-credit course introduces students to the field of writing studies, with particular attention to writing center pedagogy. We will engage with themes such as power and authority, collaboration and control, linguistic diversity, and equity in educational spaces, drawing on foundational composition scholarship as well as feminist, postcolonial, and anti-racist frameworks. Throughout the semester, students will test theoretical knowledge against what they observe and experience in their work at the CSWIM. By the end of the course, students will have developed their own philosophy of writing center pedagogy and created a pedagogical resource for the CSWIM.
